Between the hindlegs of a male horse are the testicles (although in a gelding these are either absent or very much reduced in size depending on the method used to castrate him). The sheath of the penis can be seen from the side when the horse is standing at ease, because it is slightly in front of the hind legs. A mare's udder cannot be seen from this position unless she is pregnant or nursing. Neither sex should have anything protruding between the front legs. If there is something there, it is probably a growth and you should have it checked by a vet.
