According to all guinea pig care books, it's important to make sure that the animals always have a supply of a special kind of hay called timothy. It's necessary for proper digestion and control of their teeth which, as with all rodents, grow constantly. Unlike hay, paper is processed and has far fewer nutrients. Some guinea pigs may eat excessive amounts which can seriously harm their digestive system.
