No. This has nothing to do with a horses energy.
The term "molting" applies to animals who have feathers like wild birds and chickens. They go through a period of time when they lose all their feathers and then grow new ones. Since horses do not have feathers they do not "molt". They do shed when it is time to grow either a thicker winter coat or a shorter summer one. Since shedding does not take any extra energy from the horse it does not make them more tired or vulnerable.
horses do not moult during the time of year they moult by the lenght of the days xxx
Horses are diurnal. They sleep standing and though they may be awake at night they are not nocturnal by nature.
Only carrage horses. KMP
Typically here in the USA a race horse is kept in a stall at a racetrack stable that the trainer or owner rents during the time the horses will be racing at that track. Some horses will be given time off and sent to the owner or trainers farm where they can be turned out and relax.

Replacing its feathers
Much of the nutrition (vitamins and minerals) a chicken takes in during molting period is used for feather renewal and egg production will slow considerably during this time. Once the molting is complete the hen will usually get back to producing good quality eggs. It is desirable to add a tonic to the flocks water during molt.

Well, during the day horses typically graze for about 16 hours, this period of time is interspersed with periods of napping, playing, drinking and grooming. During the night many horses will sleep laying down to get REM sleep, which they all need. While some horses sleep others will stay awake and watch for predators.
Most only do so in larval/juvenile stages, when it's time to grow. Some arthropods such as tarantula females continue growing and molting until death. Also, when damage has occurred (torn off leg for example) molting can be induced earlier to develop and grow new appendages. :)
Horses only sleep for a few hours every day. They sleep late at night or any time of day really. My horse the other day was sleeping in the mid-afternoon. It just depends on how tired they are, I guess.
