Wasps do sleep they have a gas inside of then called limpinson.If you didnt know that you arent dumb it is just not used much at all.
They don't sleep BACKWARDS, they sleep hanging upside down from their feet. They sleep like that because they have no other way to sleep as their wings and small feet do not allow them to construct a den or nest.

If it's cold, usually late-evening or night, through the night and early morning they tend to be less active. You may see some wondering around but they're not as aggressive and won't bother you. Unless you hold it in your hand real tight then you'll annoy it. now during the heat of the day when the sun hits them they're the most active.
