No. Pit bulls have the same jaw structure as any other dog breed. There is no locking mechanism, you don't have to lift the dog's legs to make it let go, it will not hold on even in death- those are all myths. The pit bull has no more of a locking jaw than a cat does.

The correct answer is "no." They do not have a physiological ability to "lock" their jaws. The cause of pet violence is human irresponsibility. You cannot say you do not "like" a breed, as if they have a moral compass.

AGAIN: Animals do not know right from wrong. They know what they are trained. In reality, breeds known as bull terriers have been historically bred to protect children. In addition, they do not lock their jaws.

∙ 14y agoNo, Pit Bulls do not have jaws that lock. That is a common myth about Pits. They do have a very strong bite and determination not to let go if they don't want to.
