The average person may swallow a spider while asleep, because Spiders are not immediately aware of the danger. Most will instinctively respond to the clues that they are in danger of being consumed. It is also likely that parts of dead spiders can be consumed, having fallen into food that is open to the air.

∙ 13y agoSometimes at night they may crawl in your mouth, only if your mouth is open. My sister told me that they crawl there and go in your throat but then they get to your stomach and the acid kills the spider. She's lying. Don't worry, I am pretty sure they do not crawl into your mouth! :)

∙ 11y agoSpiders do not like to get close to warm-blooded animals. A puff of human breath will scare a spider off. Most spiders will notice that a human body is warmer than ambient temperature, so that would warn most spiders off long before they approached anyone's mouth.
When a spider is dropping down from the ceiling on a threat of silk and you put your hand out hoping that it will land on your hand, the spider will frequently realize that something is wrong and crawl back up. Otherwise, if it lands on your hand it will sense that something is wrong, run to the edge, and drop off.
