Rats don't eat their injured. Rats in order to survive, live in packs. Like wolves and dogs, rats take care of the weak before themselves. My sweet rats would bring each other food and groom each other when the other one was sick.

However, if a wild rat dies, others may eat the body to stop it from attracting predators. Extremely rarely, this instinct kicks in with domestic rats too and one may eat their dead cage mate.
