Some say it works. Some say spreading Mothballs works. I've used powdered sulfer, you can buy it in farm supply stores. It is a yellow/ green powder, and I was told to make a thick trail of it around your house. Leaving a small opening in the trail, this I was told is to let the snakes leave the enclosed area, like a back door. That year and the following I didn't have any snakes, but that could have been for many reasons, other than the sulfer. I can't say for certain what the reasons for the drop in the snake encounters was, but there was a decline in the number.
