In general huskies have fantastic temperaments so they make great companions in that respect. They are however in most cases VERY high energy dogs which need a lot of exercise to keep them happy. If the are left alone for long periods they will often find ways to entertain themselves; more likely than not in a manner that you will not like. They can be very prone to escaping and can have a strong prey drive which could lead to problems with your neighbors. They will often like to dig so if you keep them in your back yard they will probably dig holes in the lawn. They are also a pack animal so they are happier with at least one other dog to keep them company. Of course these are all generalizations; as with humans every dog has a different personality. All of that said; I have several and love every one of them. It's just a matter of understanding the breed and what you are getting into when you bring a husky into your life.

∙ 15y agoThey are both very good breeds of dog but they both have their needs, myself I would prefer a German Shepherd because they are such beautiful dogs and have good qualities like they can be a family dog, they're intelligent, eager to please and they are one person dogs. However health wise the Siberian Husky would win as genetically they tend to get eye problems yes I know that sounds sad but compared to the German Shepherd, the German Shepherd has many health issues if not breed properly, these can range from eye problems, hip problems and many many others.
