Kneading is a common behavior in cats where they push their paws in and out against a soft surface, often accompanied by purring. This behavior is thought to be comforting and reminiscent of when they were kittens nursing from their mother.

What helps a mother cat produce milk for her kittens?

Cats nurse kittens until the kittens are about four or five weeks old. At this age, kittens begin to wean and are able to eat soft kitten food. The mother cat's teets will dry and retract slightly. The only true way to tell if a cat is still nursing kittens is through observation.

How do Siberian lynxes paws get bigger?

Siberian lynxes have adapted to their cold environments by developing larger paws, which act like natural snowshoes. As they grow, their paws increase in size to distribute their weight more effectively over soft snow, preventing them from sinking. This adaptation enhances their mobility and hunting efficiency in snowy habitats. The size of their paws is influenced by genetic factors and environmental conditions during their development.

What does it mean when a cat is practicing making biscuits?

When they're kittens, they push their paws against their mother's belly to get the milk flowing. They basically knead their mother's belly like it's bread dough. Most cats continue to do this kneading -- they'll knead blankets, people, etc. -- for the rest of their lives. Even very old cats do it. Apparently it is some kind of regression behavior. So, when a cat is practicing making biscuits, I guess it means the cat is thinking about his/her mommy.
