Although the star-nosed moles are blind, they do have eyes. They find their way around, and find their prey, by using the "feeler" on the end of their noses that are shaped like a many pointed star.

Moles can see out of their eyes. They have very tiny eyes, almost concealed by fur, and their eyesight is very poor. They can discern light and darkness, but are unable to detect colours. The southern marsupial mole (itjaritjari) and northern marsupial mole (kakarratul) of Australia are completely blind, however. These two species have no functional eyes. However, they are true marsupials, and not related to the moles of the northern hemisphere.
