Yes. One of the BEST BREEDS are GREAT PYRENEES. they have 2 coats. one keeps them warm the other keeps them cool. However, like the next poster says temps for dogs and humans are different so you don't leave even a great Pyrenees out on 100 degree weather thinking it will stay cool.
AnswerThick coated dogs or long-haired dogs should have their fur thinned down (a groomer can do this.) Consider the fact you are wearing a fur coat during the summer months. There have been arguments about this subject, but the bottom line is that thick-coated to long-haired dogs do suffer from the heat. I own a Bichon Frise and they have fur like sheep. My dog gets so warm she will head straight for the river to cool off or, will lay on the marble hearth of the fireplace. I have my dog groomer sheer her like a sheep and she feels 100% better.Dogs temps are higher than humans so the owners must always be sure the dog is in a cool place (preferably inside your home where it is usually cooler) and never leave dogs in cars or tied up outside without shade and be sure they have lots of water. I change my dogs water at least 3 times a day during the summer and that includes my cat (all 3 are big water drinkers.)
AnswerAs the other poster said Great Pyrenees are a beautiful dog and since I go to the doggie beach I have seen several of these breeds. They are awesome! Good gentle character to them as well. I meant to add that dogs like the Great Pyrenees, Huskys, English Sheep dogs do need their coats (English Sheep dogs should never have the hair around their eyes cut) and all large long-haired and thick-coated dogs should be kept cool, but if the dogs are very hot then you can have the groomer thin their long hair down a little (not cut it short) as air needs to get to the skin. They heat up extremely quickly.Dog breeding is getting certain dogs together to make a baby to meet the needs of the customer wanting a certain dog.
Variations in breeding over the years. Some dogs were bred to be short and small to hunt ground hogs or badgers, others where bred to do well in the cold and run long distances such as sled dogs. By breding certain dogs with certain characteristics over time you change the make up of the animal. If humans had never interfered with natural canine breeding we would not have nearly as many breeds as we do now. A example is the new "designer" breeds such as Labordoodles or Pickadoodles or what have you.
Well, there are many different dogs out there. There are maybe somewhere around 5000+ different dog breeds dog breeds will never stop as long as different dogs breed to make different and amazing breeds!
