Dogs are both. But mostly far sighted
There's no set limit to how far away a scent can be picked up. It depends on how strong the scent is and the wind direction. Scent is carried by air. If the dog is upwind of the source of the scent it won't feel a thing. Downwind, even humans can smell big stuff like forest fires for miles.Dogs have an incredible sense of smell; most dogs can smell things several hundred feet away if not farther. Bloodhounds and Labrador retrievers can smell things at times that are miles away (and days old).

They use something called echolocation. When they send out sounds, the sounds will bounce off surrounding things and come back to the bat, showing it how far away things are. Obviously, things that are farther away will take longer to come back then closer things.
