HELP no idea what type of bug this is in Texas i keep seeing these black bugs with a fuzzy red thorax they fly like wasps and scurry around like ants about an inch long six legs they like wood maybe?

The bug you describe is a hymenopteran, However without more detail it is difficult to identify accurately. I have also seen these in Carolina. I assume they are a type of ant. These insects give a painful sting. It is an intense pain, which feels similar to a bee sting. This is a real cause of concern for children and pets. In fact these insects are from the wasp family. The females are wingless while the males have wings. They are often known as Velvet Ants because of their furry texture on their backs. In some parts of the country, includingTexas they are more commonly known as Cow Killers, as some people believe their venom to be so powerful that it could kill a cow.
