The class difference is the number of legs per body segment : a centipede has one pair of legs to each segment, while a millipede has two pairs.

However, the two classes are very dissimilar and mostly look nothing alike.

Centipedes (class Chilopoda) have flattened bodies and longer antennae for their size.

Millipedes (class Diplopoda) have long, taller, semi-cylindrical bodies.
