On Buzzle.com, they advise you to line the ceiling area of the bird house with aluminum foil (you can staple it), or rub bar soap on the ceiling. They say the bar soap will last for one whole wasp season.

∙ 9y agoYou can use normal household items to stop birds from nesting in your flower baskets, including a cotton ball soaked in ammonia or mothballs placed in the basket on top of the soil. Placing something shiny like an old compact disc or ice cream sticks wrapped in aluminum foil will discourage birds from nesting in your plants.
