It is very hard to estimate the size of an alligator buyt one rule of thumb that comes close is that their length is usually very close to the distance between the eyes measured in inches can be used, just convert the inches to ft. ie: 8 inches= 8 ft. (the question then becomes, how accurate are you at estimating the distance between the eyes) (Discussion) I've heard this rule before but another rule is also out there. The distance from the eyes to the end of the snout. That seems a little more believable but I don't know for sure. Also, where is the start or stopping point for these locations?

What is the length of an alligators tail?

as long as its tail. Although the above answer is correct, I think what they are trying to say is that it all depends on the length of thr Alligator. Typically, the length of an Alligator's tail is about half of the total length of the animal itself. For example, the tail of an Alligator of 10 feet in length will be about 4 1/2 to 5 foot long.

An alligator hatching grew to 72.5 inches after six year. This length is 10 times its hatchling length. If you want to know its hatchling length should you multiply or divid by 10?

To find the hatchling length, you should divide the alligator's current length of 72.5 inches by 10. Since the current length is 10 times the hatchling length, dividing by 10 will give you the original size at hatching. Thus, the hatchling length is 7.25 inches.
