You can earn your dogs trust by spending time with it and making it feel good in ways similar to how you would make a human feel good. you can also use a clicker to train and give him treats everytime he/she listens to you
By nature, dogs are highly hierarchical. In any group of dogs, there's always an alpha male and alpha female.
What makes dogs "love" (though that's a little bit of a stretch), is the really simple fact that a family dog looks to US as being alpha... the boss. All dogs need to either lead, or be led.
For dogs, a human is THE alpha leader which is why they literally "bow down" to their owners...usually. Abused dogs can have a cold hearted demeanor and turn on humans; some of which need to be put down.
To get a dog "attached" to you depends on the dog's demeanor, but in general, it comes naturally just by being affectionate, and rewarding.
Note how dogs ALWAYS look at your eyes. That's how they look for leadership and most dogs naturally perceive humans as their alpha leader and as such, act as beta or followers and will always look up to you.
I think it's pretty natural for a dog to attach to it's owner, and others to which it's familiar with.
That's why a dog can look out for their owner/family. If they sense a threat, they act.
Of course big dogs have more bite, and also the breed affects their temperament. There are breeds I would never have around my young kids, and others are so layed back, a kid can crawl on top of them and the dog is like "cool" or "whatever". Labs are great dogs with young kids. Easy mannered and hard to piss off.
I grew up with a yellow lab and you could say her name and the tail would be going 'thunka thunka thunka" against the narrow hallway.
Only ONCE did this dog EVER snarl and it was when the neighbor's dog wandered into the house and went for our Lab's food bowl. I was both suprised, and amazed.
This animal would never turn on us, I could pick her food bowl up and she'd be wagging her tail knowing it's dinner time. But when an "outsider dog" (dumb I guess) went near the EMPTY dish, the lab put on her fight face.... something I had NEVER seen before.
If you treat a dog nicely, it will bond to you as it's "boss"/alpha.
If not, then it's possible the dog has been abused, and does not trust humans. If so, that's a tough one to deal with and you'd have to decide how to proceed... either training, adoption, or worse case, be put down. Dogs have pretty good memories and if a prior owner abused it, it will be a tough nut to crack.
Answer 1:
Don't sneak up behind the horse. Sat comforting words and speak gently. When going to the horse make sure it can see you so that you don't scare it. You also will have to walk slowly until the horse accepts you. You need to take time for these steps and suggestions to work don't rush.
Answer 2:
First of all as stated above, you need to spend time with a horse so it is comfortable around you. Spend that time petting, grooming, or talking to the horse. Don't purposely try to scare the horse or you won't do any good. When the horse is comfortable enough for you to handle it then you move up a step. You can start working with the horse. If you have a fenced in open area, put a halter on the horse with a very long lead rope and make the horse walk trot and run around you in a circle. This may sound mean but it allows the horse to accept you as a friend and not just a business partner. Soon the horse will start walking right up to you asking for attention. This is when you have gained its trust. You may then ride or just continue spending time with the horse; whatever makes you and the horse happy.
Getting a horse to trust you will take time. hand feeding a horse is the best way the slowly getting closer and closer then gently patting the horse. This could take weeks.
You must train the horse to respond to you when you call her. This can take some time, but after it's done, she will come when called.
They need to get endurance. You should work with them a lot. Make sure they trust you. Then start working your horse by riding them in arenas and round pens. if your horse is calm you can even take them out and ride them on trails. Really the only way to get your horse to go faster is build up their endurace by riding them as much as you can. But be sure that you are not hurting the horse. Do not make him work to hard at first build them up or you will only hurt the horse.
Most definately. If there is an apple tree that your horse can get to it is probably wise to put him somewhere else. Too much of anything can make a horse sick and you can't trust him to eat only 2 or 3 at a time. Hoses will 'pig out', never stopping until they almost drop.
The Foster Horse Program is run through the Assateague Island National Seashore in conjunction with the Assateague Coastal Trust. The current cost (Fall, 2008) is $31.00 per horse. For more information, go to www.assateaguewildhorses.org. Hope that helps!
When walking up behind a horse, you should talk in a gentle voice. stay close to the hindquarters. if you dont know the horse, walk way around. if the horse kicks and your right up next to it youll get pushed. if your mid distance, youll get the blow. if your way away you wont get anything. You are in between your horse and traffic that way, it shows your horse it is alright as your horse should trust you
Touch the horse very softly, feed it and take good care of it so that the horse will trust you and make friends with you.
She got her horse when she was five or six just after her mom died trust me I know
No, you should never beat a horse. Beating a horse will cause them to lose trust in you and they may possibly fight back.
Talk to the person standing next to the horse. He or she will tell you if you can tame him, you can have him. You then get on the horse, and keep your mouse in the circle for a while. When the horse stops, you have earned the horse, and his trust.
