How can you get a kitten to recognize and come to its name?

Cats are always trying to get our attention so the first thing to remember in teaching cats to talk is to only respond when they speak clear words. Also when you hear your cat in the other room speaking or tying to talk do not run in to cuddle them right away. Wait until they perfect a word. Sometimes they try to hide their practicing of words and when you run it they stop and pretend they were just making cat noises. Teaching your cat to talk is not as hard as you would think. They first have to want to speak. Not all cats can talk but, if you show them other talking cats and laugh when you see them you will find your cat trying to talk.

One problem we found is they say things as we do. Yes that means no matter how cute they are try not to talk baby talk to them when you are teaching cats to speak, however a cat talking baby talk is very cute. I have noticed that at times my cats talking to me in different tones now when it is just she and I. When she speaks with her daddy near or here it seems to at times be more of a grown up and serious voice. She speaks clearly yet in a child voice to me most of the time. If you want to train cats to talk you have to teach them proper wording. When you use the same words many times they learn those words faster. Every time you feed or cuddle your cat pick a word or phrase to teach them. One of the cute phrases is I Love You Mama. When your cat speaks and starts talking you will hear a difference in the tone of voice they use. They all have their own voices and all talking cats sound so cute. after listening to real talking cats you can always tell when it is a cats voice of if a person is making fake videos. cats have beautiful voices.

Don't worry, they will it just takes time. Try to call them and talk to them alot, using their name, not a nick name or 'kitty kitty' Also, if you give them treats, shake the bag and call their name until they come. This will eventually help them learn their name.

Cats can learn their names just by saying it to them over and over. It is still undertermind if cats recognize words or pitches. i.e if your cats name is switch and you test her bay calling her ditch and she still responds.

If you call the cat by a certain name from a young age they will begin to learn the association between them and the name. If you call them, then give them attention they are likely to know that is what they are named and so respond to it in the future.

However, cats are by nature fairly independent, so the degree to which they care that you are talking to/about them can vary considerably depending on their individual personality and inclinations of the moment. One of my cats will typically at least turn her ears towards me when she hears her name; the other is more likely to flatten her ears, hunker down, and close her eyes in the apparent hope that if she doesn't respond the stupid giant will stop bothering her and let her get on with her sleeping.

Depending on the relationship you have with your cat depends on its reaction. Some cats (such as my own) is likely to come to you if you call for it, because it associates you with food or affection. Other cats are more independent and will listen to you, but not respond as such.

Yes, I think all animals can learn their names. Because we are animals too! It just takes a lot of practice! My puppy learned her name, and now when I call her she comes, just pick one name and don't ever change it because once they learn that name they know to come to it!

Repetition is the thing ... animals can be very smart, but only when they want to be. I'd say, it may take them about 6 months to get used to responding by name recognition, maybe less time.
