How can you help a constipated rabbit?

For rabbit constipation there is a solution but you MUST be careful. Lettuce in large amounts can give rabbits diarrhea which may lead to death. However, if you are careful to give your rabbit a small amount of fresh lettuce (NOT ICEBERG) every day or so along with it's everyday fresh mixed greens, your bun should be back to normal in no time. But again, please be careful. Their systems are so delicate.

People can help rabbits by getting them fixed....And that helps them because when rabbits are pregnant they are in lots of pain....And also we have to many rabbits on this earth....And not enough homes for them all...

When a rabbit is constipated, that means it is in GI stasis (or will be within a few hours). This is not like humans being constipated. A human can be constipated for days, even weeks, without suffering serious harm; a rabbit, however, will die within a day or two, unless it gets the right medical attention.

Treatment for GI stasis includes pain medication, gut motility medication, sub-cutaneous fluids, force-feeding, and belly massage, at least. If the problem was caused by an underlying condition (which is common), or if complications have developed, the rabbit may need additional treatment.

A constipated rabbit is an emergency. Call your vet right now. If they are closed, leave a message, so that they find out the second they open. Then try to find an after hours vet hospital: a shot of medication and some sub-cutaneous fluid can save your rabbit's life until your real vet opens.
