Some Spiders have periods of inactivity during the night, similar to people. Others are more active at night. In colder climates, some of them have much longer periods of inactivity, kind of like hibernation. It depends on the type of spider, but the way they sleep is to withdraw to someplace where they are safe, and then their bodies slow down, kind of like our bodies slow down when we sleep.

If you mean "why don't they fall?," they are really good at anchoring themselves in place wherever they are.
