poked by briers and teeth can get the leaves or grass

Horses use their teeth for eating, defense, and play.

Eating they pick up hay or other food and chew it like we do.

Defense they will nip at you and their jaw has to come all the way down before it comes up, so don't get your fingers bit, you might not get them back

and horses will nip at each other for play.

Because that's pretty much how they need to look to work for what they're used for.

Sharp at the front to bite grass off, flat at the rear to grind grass up.

when they a fustrated and dont want to be bothered mare do that when they arnt ready to breed and may bare their teeth and or try to kick the stallion
