Dogs are really 'Mans best friend.' * Dogs want to please and are extremely loyal to their owner (male or female.) * Certain Police Officers have dogs that they are trained with, bring home and are part of the family and work along side the police officer. * Hounds and other breeds of dogs are good for tracking convicts, lost children or lost adults. * Newfoundland dogs (and several other breeds) are used for rescue work in water. They also use to be used for looking after children while the children were playing out in the yard. * Dogs, small, medium or large will do their very best to warn and protect their owners and the rest of the family. * Dogs are trained for the blind. * Dogs are now used in experiments with sniffing out cancer in potential hidden cancers in humans. * Dogs are trained to sniff out drugs or weapons especially at Airports or Border Crossings. * Dogs are trained for the paraplegic and people with seizures, etc., because the dog can sense things before the human can. * Dogs are often used to help children who are mentally challenged or, if the child has gone inward and no one can get through to them. Dogs have a high success rate with children. * Dogs pull sleds. * Dogs herd cattle and sheep. * Dogs were trained in the Army during WWII to carry messages through enemy lines. Many people don't know that when 9/11 occurred that the dogs looking for bodies were getting their feet burned and had to use special 'booties' to protect the pads of their feet. Unfortunately, not many were found alive in the rubble and the dogs actually got so depressed because they were only finding the dead, the trainers had to take them back to base and they would bury another trainer so the dog could find them alive and back to the spot of 9/11 the dog would go.
