Dogs can die for as many reasons and in as many ways as humans can. They can get cancer, be poisoned, have heart attacks, get hit by a car. The list is endless.

My Labrador retriever just recently passed away from lymphoma, a type of cancer. It was heartbreaking and I miss him very much. I feel he was cheated out of a good life because Labradors tend to live to be around 13 and when he died, he wasn't even eight.

Best thing you can do, is treat your dog every day like it's his last day alive. (People should treat each other that way too, but humans are way dumber than dogs, cats and other pets in that regard). Trust me, if you treat your pet with respect and love and something happens to it, you'll at least know that your pet had a good life and will have no regrets when it's gone.

My dog had a great life and the only thing I regret is that he didn't have more of it.
