Tigers use scent markings, claw, and scratch marks to denote and claim their territory, which is usually not disputed. They will walk miles to mark and remark their borders to warn and alert other tigers of their presence. But, they will fight over breeding rights, it's just extremely rare to fight over territory. The male intentionally claims an area that overlaps several different female's territory, thus when they are in season, he has a better chance of mating with at least one female. The fights for the female can be brutal, going on for hours, but ending in a break between the fighters and the loser leaving to find a mate elsewhere. But, just a territory fight is extremely rare.
