Tuataras are largely insectivorous, but also eat some meat. So, they are carnivores, not herbivores. They feed on insects and other invertebrates such as spiders, worms, and snails, and also take eggs and seabird chicks, frogs, and smaller lizards...even baby tuataras, sometimes. (Tuataras are not lizards). If they can catch it, and it's small enough and edible, they will eat it. Seeds have been found in their stomach contents, but it's not certain that they were there because the lizards deliberately ate fruit--they may have been inside (or stuck to) their prey.
