ok im sure that the vet has crossed your mind....however if that isn't a choice for you this is how i would treat it.
1. first look at the infection and determine how the injury happened in the first place ie a cut or an ingrown nail..
2. clean the area with hydrogen poroxide and water mixed 50/50.
3. if the area is swollen with the infection you have to drain the puss out...(its gross i know.)
A. you will need two people for this as cats don't like to be malled.
wrap the cat in a towel like a baby (swaddle) with the infected paw out.
B. if its a ingrown nail the nail must be cut first, before draining, or any object in the paw, i usually use a sterile needle to get it going. any needle will do just make sure to clean it with alchohol or heat it over a flame.then push the puss out.4. clean the area again with the 50/50 solution.don't be shy in most cases this is a relief for the animal.sqeeze until you see pinkish bloody puss.take short rests in between pusshing it helps a bit.when no puss gomes out you can stop.(hope you had an empty stomach for that)
5.keep the area as clean as possible repeating above twice a day until healed.if it continues filling repeat the above .don't use any ointments or sprays on the area.cats will ingest it. let her lick at as much as she wants to.
6.if you don't see any improvement in 3-4 days you will have to get the cat to the vet to get an antibiotic and to determine if there is another problem with the cat.
hope this helps for you and your kitty.
