I personally hire someone to come to the house and take the dog out two or three times a day. It's usually not that expensive, and you can get recommendations from your vet. These people are generally very trustworthy. I've never had anything taken or broken.
You can also pay a neighbor or neighbor's child if they are trustworthy.

Most airlines allow animals where passengers sit, but you have to buy the dog a ticket If it is a big dog then, yes, you do have to put the dog below and the dog has to be in a cage/airline approved pet carrier. In Addition: If you are traveling to another country that requires animals to be quarantined, then yes, the dog will have to travel in quarantine.
