you can buy water treatment for it at a petstore, when you buy it, put all the fish in a new jar or tank with fresh water with the ich ointment in it the same temperature as the old tank and make sure to filter the water so there is no chlorine, and put the fish in that, them dump the old tank out and clean everything with some kind of safe natural cleaner and rinse the hell out of it, then put the fish back in it, and use common sense. please..
All fish can catch the ich. The Ich is probably the common fish disease, the ich refers to a ciliated protozoan of the genus Ichthyophthirius. Ich is present all the time in aquaria just waiting the "right" time to burst. The ich covers himself with tough outer shell, in this time he feeds on the fish body fluids. This stage known as theront is a visible stage and we can see it clearly on the fish body. Each theront appears as a very small white spot on the fish body, those white spots are what we called ich disease.
Ich itself is the cause. The disease is usually referred to as ich, ick or whitespot and manifests itself as small (grain of salt) white spots all over the fish. Ichthyophthirius multifiliis is the Latin name for the parasite that causes this disease. It frequently appears when fish are stressed, such as when the tank is not properly cycled and there is a trace of ammonia in their water, when they are exposed to incorrect temperature, pH or temperature fluctuations, overcrowding, underfeeding or similar stresses. In the established home aquarium, ich usually occurs when a new fish from a stressful environment (such as a bad pet store) is introduced without the proper quarantine period being observed. There are many methods of treating ich, including salt and high temperatures, and commercial remedies based on malachite green, methlyene blue and formalin.
Yes, all of the fish in the tank could get it. Even if only 1 fish in your tank has it, treat every fish to make sure the parasite gets off. I noticed one day that one of my little fishie friends had ick, the next day all of my guppies did, and 2 died. If you notice ick on your fish, treat it PRONTO! Or else you might lose a couple. :( :(
Yes, turtles can get Ich, also known as white spot disease. Ich is a common parasitic infection that can affect freshwater and saltwater turtles. It presents as small white spots on the turtle's skin and can be treated with medication and adjustments to their environment.
Ichthyophthirius multifiliis is a species of ciliate protozoan which parasitizes freshwater fish; the disease it causes is usually called ich or white spot. It is probably the most common aquarium fish parasite and there are few Aquarists that have not met it on one or more occasions[1]. "Ich" (the colloquially abbreviated form of the name) is the largest known parasitic protozoan found on fishes. Adult organisms are oval or round and measure 0.5 to 1.0 mm in size. The adult is uniformly ciliated and contains a horseshoe-shaped nucleus which can be seen in older individuals. The disease becomes especially serious in enclosed areas, where it spreads quickly from one fish to another. Ich is the disease responsible for the most fatalities in freshwater aquarium fish and can cause notable damage to aquaculture. Marine ich is caused by a different ciliate, Cryptocaryon. After approximately one week of parasitism, mature trophozoites leave their host, settle to a substrate and secrete a cyst. The encysted cell, called a tomont, undergoes rapid division over approximately twenty-four hours to produce 600-1000 daughter cells called tomites. Once these reach maturity, they exit the cyst and develop into a theront stage, which is highly mobile. Theronts then infect new fish, digging their way into exposed parts, under the scales, or more commonly into its gill plate. The entire life-cycle takes about seven to ten days to complete.Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichthyophthirius_multifiliis
Any place that sells fish products will sell some kind of ich medication. there are many to choose from.
Remove the sick fish..... the fish that has the ich should be put in a hospital tank then treated for ich, corals do not get ich, only the fish, so a ten gallon tank with a aerator would be ideal for a hospital tank....
Hi, the white spots are on your fish because your fish has a disease called ich or ick. To cure ick you need to buy a liquid for ich cure in a local pet fish shop. Ick or ich is like an allergy for fishes. Thank you :)
If treated accordingly with the instructions in you anti-fungi medicine, they should be fine in a few days. Don't freak out and empty the bottle in your tank! A few drops will do. Correction. Anti fungal medication is completely ineffective against Ich and ICH TAKES 2 WEEKS to cure NOT a few days. the cysts on the fish will hatch and dissappear off the fish but it by no means indicates that the tank is free of Ich. Distrust ANY medication that says it can cure ich in less than 2 weeks unless it has instructions to turn the temperature of the water up. An Ich treatment cannot do anything about the ich that is observeable on the fish themselves as the slime coat protects it but it can help prevent reinfection. The best thing to do is a 50% water change and remove any stressors(overly aggressive fish) Search for answers on the lifecycle of ich and you will have a vastly improved understanding of how to treat the fish and what to expect. It's one of the most common diseases and the most easily treated and diagnosed. 2 weeks after the last spot on the fish you can stop worrying and remove medications or salt in the tank.
Heat the water to 82F, remove the carbon from your filter, and use Quick Cure at half strength until spots are gone. Then use another half dose every 3 days for 3 more doses to keep the ich from coming back.
There are some species of fish that are very prone to Ich infections and some of the loaches (in particular Botias) are well known for it. Ich is one of those bugs that have to be totally destroyed otherwise they will continue to come back. I would advise you to buy a good Ich cure from a pet shop and follow the directions exactly.
Ich will kill every fish in the tank. It is deadly if left untreated. You will need to get to a pet shop and buy some Whitespot /Ich medication ASAP.

ICH is a disease that is curable, but will kill your fish in a matter of seconds. You should go to a nearby petstore, your local walmart sells an ich killer but it very well will kill your fish too. I buy a cristalized like Ich killer, and it works very well. You dont have to raise the temp. in your tank or worry about your fish dieing. You just have to put the recommended amount in, and wait. I suggest you dont put more than that, making the water more toxic. It will kill your fish if you do overdose.WHAT REALLY IS ICH?Ich is a disease that sucks at the blood in your fish. IT will later inflame the gills thus, the fish will not be able to breath. Your fish will almost die instantly. If your fish have had Ich for a long time and it spreads, your fish will most likely not be curable because, your fish will have little to no blood left in the body. If the fish is a Goldfish you check to see if the spots are only on the fishes gills and pectoral fins. If so the white spots are indicating that the fish is in breeding condition. If the white spots are visible on other parts of the fish then your fish probably has Ich/Ick/ Whitespot and you will have to use a commercially available cure normally available at the pet shop.
Fish get ich, or ichthyophthirius, due to a parasite that infects their skin and gills. It can be prevented by maintaining good water quality, avoiding stress for the fish, and quarantining new fish before introducing them to an aquarium. Treatment options include raising the water temperature, using medication specifically designed to treat ich, and maintaining a clean environment for the fish.
Yes and there are several other diseases that look similar to, but are not Ich (White spot)
