How do you tell if fish are hungry?

Symptoms of fish stress include: * "Gasping" (rapid flapping of the gills) * Clamped fins (fins lay against the body instead of being spread out) * Loss of color * Lethargy * Not eating * Sitting on the bottom * Floating crooked If you notice any of these symptoms, check your water parameters to make sure nothing has gone wrong with the chemistry, and try changing some of the water (20-30%) to see if it improves the fish's condition.

you can tell if your fish is hungry by opening the lid of it's container, if it goes up to the surface it means the fish is hungry, but don't put too much food, the fish's stomach might blow up, it happened to my 3 goldfishes.

You can tell if your fish has gone into shock by a few different behaviors. Your fish may keep swimming in a vertical line up and down the side of the tank, or once in a while he may suffer spasms that shoot him quite a distance across the tank. Your fish may also act very lethargic and inactive if he is in shock. If you notice any of these signs, check the pH level of the aquarium water. You may also want to check the temperature. If these are off, this may be the reason your fish has gone into shock. Contact or go to the pet store from which you got your fish and ask someone who works in the fish section what to do. 99% of the time he/she will know exactly what to do. If your fish is a new fish, he might be suffering from new tank syndrome. You should contact the pet store about this as well. Sometimes new tank syndrome may just take it's course and your fish will die from shock. If your fish is suffering from new tank syndrome, make sure to keep the light in your tank off for the first few days. Also, don't get too close to the tank. Your fish may still need to adapt to his new environment without being disturbed or scared. They will either swim around a lot more than usual or they will stop swimming altogether and just lounge around on the bottom of the tank/pond. You should look for any unnatural behavior and do research to see why they are doing this

the colour starts to fade and the tips of the fins starts to rot. it will also not eat its food and is less active.
if your fish is dying he will sink to the bottom or turn yellow
