How does the gorilla defend their harems?

A gorilla can protect itself by pounding on his/her chest and making very loud nosies to frighten the attacker. If that fails, it can just hit or counter-attacking the attacker.
They stand upright, beat chest, roar and throw things, such as rocks, and even large branches. They are non-aggressive unless cornered and scared. They are shy creatures and will generally avoid a confrontation. The only enemies of them are leopards and humans, who shoot them for their fur and meat.

They will also chase each other, with the chaser attempting to grab at the chasee to tussle it up some more. The loser then turns tail and runs away, lowering his head as a sign of submission.
