A gorilla can protect itself by pounding on his/her chest and making very loud nosies to frighten the attacker. If that fails, it can just hit or counter-attacking the attacker.
They stand upright, beat chest, roar and throw things, such as rocks, and even large branches. They are non-aggressive unless cornered and scared. They are shy creatures and will generally avoid a confrontation. The only enemies of them are leopards and humans, who shoot them for their fur and meat.

Apart from how unlikely it is that these two species would ever meet in the wild, and putting any environmental factors aside, a polar bear could easily kill a gorilla. A polar bears weighs 2 or 3 times what a gorilla weighs. Also the bears are predators accustomed to killing other animals while the gorilla is a herbivore. The only chance a gorilla would have is to escape or use weapons such as rocks or sticks to defend itself.
The Latin word for gorilla is "Gorilla."
