I've read true articles where cats will travel many miles to get home. When I divorced my first husband I couldn't keep my cat so gave it to my brother and sister-in-law. My cat traveled over 20 miles to get back to our old basement suite. The lady and her daughter that lived there phoned and ask me if she could keep the cat as her daughter was very attached to it. I was very relieved the cat was fine and both he and the little girl were happy.
There is no exact answer to this, all cats travel different amounts. Some cats might go to another state, some cats might be just a few houses away. It depends really how brave your cat is and if they are indoor or outdoor. My two cats are both indoor cats, and they won't go past my grass.
While most cats do remain near home, there have been many documented cases where cats, who was lost while on vacation with it's owners, or somehow was accidentally transported a very long distance from home, managed to find it's way back home, even after months of being lost.
it depends on how much it wants to be home and if it can survive
The home of a cat is called a cattery. This term can be used to refer to the home of a pet cat, or to a commercial business that houses cats for boarding, breeding, or other purposes. Which term you use may depend on the context. For example, you might call a cat's bed a "cat house," even though this term can also be used to refer to a commercial cattery. Or, you might call a cat's outdoor enclosure a "catio," which is a combination of the words "cat" and "patio."

If this is one of numerouse occasions that your cat has ran away expect your cat to come home in a few days or a couple of weeks your cat could be looking for a mate or a nearby cat that is in heat. the other likely thing is that your cat was hit by a car or it was taken by someone else. AnswerIt depends really. If your cat hasn't been nutured then it will travel very far from its home, trying to look for other cats to mate with. If your cat has been nutured it will only travel as far as 3 to 4 doors away from your home. ~X Hope this helps X~
