That depends on the species, if it is in captivity or not, and if in captivity...if you are a herpetologist or expert herp keeper, or an amateur.

Most don't live but a few months in captivity in the hands of unskilled people.

Some species with good care, live 6 or more years. In the wild the average life span, if not killed by first by predation or accident, is probably 6-8 years for most species. There have been documented cases of several species living 10 or more years in captivity, with skilled herpetologists. The current record is 18 years, for a P. mccallii, kept by Bertrand Bauer.
