With my cats we got told that if the cats are moving in and they have never lived with you or in that house before then keep them inside with all doors and windows shut for 2 weeks making sure they have food, water and a cosy place to sleep. My cat is loose all night and she'll have a crazy run through the house around 11 PM and then settle in for the night on the bed.
