Well I had 5 but 1 I was looking after for a while. It was a struggle because there was hardly enough money for cat food. The owner came and took his

cat, which left me with 4. That was alright but money was still tight. One of my male cats ran away, so that left me with 3 cats. This was better because they can share one tin between three cats. 5 and 4 cats are a bit too many in my household for my budget, but it depends on your own income.

The number of cats you can care for directly corresponds to how much space you have in your house, and how much you earn. Ideally, you should be able to afford all the things a cat needs, which includes any emergency/unplanned trips to the vet and medication. If you are struggling to feed your cats(s) enough food each day, it would be kinder to give them away to someone who can afford their care.
