Well, I had always believed that the Pygmy Shrew was smallest. However, when I checked in my volume of 'Walkers' - "Mammals of the World" it states that the Pygmy Shrew ( Microsorex Hoyi) is second smallest, at an average adult weight of 2.3 grams, and the smallest is a European shrew called 'Suncus Etruscus' with an adult averaging 1.9-2 grams.
