If you feed a cat the diet they are adapted to by nature, the cat will regulate their own appetite and food intake.

Look at the pet food ingredients. The more grains, the more problems. Cats do not have the enzymes that let them digest such carbohydrates. So all they do is mess up the cat's system, and leads to overweight, and worse.

Find a non-grain wet food, and start feeding them a good canned food. They will get all the nutrients they need that way, without getting a bunch of calories they cannot use.

Then you don't have to worry about it. In this, as in all things regarding their care, the cat is smarter than we are.
