Your guinea pig should not get food at meal times like a dog, he or she should have a constantly full bowl of food available at all times. A dog will eat all of its food in case it can't get some later, but a guinea pig will only eat when it is hungry. You should also give it a salad of safe fruits and veggies daily along with a handful (or two handfuls if you have two guinea pigs) of Timothy Hay a day. Timothy provides nutrients that are important to a piggy's diet as well as the rough texture needed to keep their teeth in good condition. Be careful when buying commercially-prepared foods; some less-expensive brands dilute timothy with alfalfa but the latter isn't nutritionally suitable.

They should have an unlimited supply of timothy hay and pellets and they should be fed fresh veggies twice a day.
It's recommended to feed your guinea pigs twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Sometimes the food packaging will tell you to feed your guinea pigs about 1/4 cup. If you do this, make sure to gice them 1/8 cup in the morning and the other 1/8 cup at night. I've found that my guinea pigs don't need 1/4 cup so just adjust the food amount based on their weight.
