∙ 15y agoif the mother dog is willing you can hold them right away, but some mothers are very protective of their litter and won't tolerate anyone holding them. There is no harm to the puppies from holding them, as the mother dog can definitively smell each of her pups, and your scent does not affect that.

Six weeks is more commonly recommended.
Not so, puppies should ideally be left with their mother for approximately 8 weeks. Mom socializes them and trains them in proper puppy etiquette during this time. Puppies removed from Mom too soon can be harder to train because they didn't get the basics from not only Mom, but their siblings.
