They wouldn't because at the beginning, no life could live outside of the water due to high percentages of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. By the time there was enough oxygen to live, there wouldn't be animals that are edible, and the only plants are ferns and conifers. Plus, there is the factor of a dinosaur, because you know, they are kinda of big and some like to eat meat.
