Chicks will wander away in a farmyard. Mother hen usually will call it back to the brood but if that does not work, there are things you can do. Take mother hen and the rest of her family to a safe area. Bring mother hen back to the area you found her and she will make the right noise to call all her brood, the lost chick will likely come back. If that does not work, start searching any areas where the chick might hide like hay bales and long grass.

How long can a chick live in its shell after breaking through the air sac I have lost one chick in the shell already?

It can take up to 24 hours for the chick to complete its escape. It is best not to help the chick break out of the shell as you can damage the chick trying to help. There is a supply of blood in the shell membrane that will weaken the chick if broken early. Increase the humidity in the incubator, lack of moisture is the main reason for die off in the shell during peeping. try for 75% humidity.

Why do shrews use echolocation?

Shrews use echolacation to find prey, communicate with other animals, or find their homes or other shrews, maybe a lost baby. Shrews have a very sensative smell and touch, which might be why (I don't know this for sure) they use echolocation.

How do you take care of lost rabbits?

If the rabbit is grown, take care of it just as you would if you had brought it home yourself. If the rabbit is a baby, it will have the best chance of survival if you give it to a wildlife rehabber or someone from a rabbit rescue organization. Baby rabbits are very difficult to hand-raise, especially if you don't have experience.

Why is there a space at the end of a chicken's egg?

This space is the reserve air that a developing chick will use just before hatching. As the chick peeps the inner membrane of the shell on day 21, that small amount of air will sustain it until it can open a hole in the outer membrane and hard shell.

How would you know if you lost your baby?

You would have reasonably heavy bleeding that is generally quite painful (if you are in the earlier stages of pregnancy) In the later stages of pregnancy, once you are regularly feeling your baby move, if you have not felt your baby move in 12 hours, you should go to the hospital, however it does not neccessarily mean that you have lost your baby
