Just because she comes into heat doesn't mean you need a male to breed her.

Before you consider breeding, make sure of these things:

1. Make sure your dog is negative for canine brucellosis. If your dog is positive, she will pass it to the male, and their can be serious consequences.

2. Get her vet-checked, utd shots, and dewormed.

3. Make sure she is AKC registered (this ONLY identifies her as purebred)

4. Get her eyes checked (CERF-screened) to make sure she doesn't have eye problems which she will pass to her puppies, and later become blind herself.

5. Make sure she's healthy, and on the best diet possible.

6. Get her CGC/TT titled (very simple, and many tests are available), and if possible, Herding Instinct Certified (HIC) titled too. After all, sheep dogs were orignally bred to be sound-tempered herding dogs, NOT Pets. Do not skimp this.

Once ALL of these requirements are completed, and you find a stud with the same requirements completed, you can breed her, but make sure you know the responsiblity of finding good homes for the puppies.
