Combination mineral and salt blocks that the horses lick as long or often as they want are very common and horses definitely benefit from them, however, the minerals obtained from these "licks" are fairly minimum. There are other supplements on the market that you can add to the horses feed which provide more and a wider range of minerals. One such brand is Nature's Essentials 12:12, which comes in loose form that you scoop into the feed as well as a block form for the horses to lick.
