I do believe they originated in China
Silk is produced by silkworms, which are the larvae of silk moths. The silkworms spin silk to create cocoons in which they undergo metamorphosis into adult moths. The silk is harvested from these cocoons and woven into fabric.
Silkworms are not nocturnal but are active during the day and night. They typically follow a feeding and resting pattern throughout the day, with increased activity during feeding times.
Silk is produced by silkworms by secreting a fluid through their spinnerets to create a protective cocoon. The silk thread is then harvested by unraveling the cocoon.
My son and I caught the first beautiful green silkworm moth we had ever seen last year around the street light in our drive way. There were quite a few of them for several weeks. We live in the country outside of Durant, Southern Oklahoma.
Silk is spun by silkworms as a protective coccoon, and in order for the silk to be harvested at the right time, the silkworms must be boiled from the coccoons. They are usually eaten in areas where food is scarce, but animal rights activists believe it is unfair to kill all of the silkworms in order to obtain their meat and silk.
For most part, it is the people from oriental countries eating silkworms on daily basis. This costume has been brought to other countries around the world.

You can get strong white thread from silkworms, or you might find it lying around (one of the little shiny things). I think that you get it from the very, very fat, or maybe the very tall and fat white silkworms? I'm not sure, but you can definitely get it from silkworms, somehow. Hope this helped :)

Sericulture is the practice of rearing silkworms for the production of silk. This process involves feeding the silkworms mulberry leaves until they spin cocoons, which are then harvested and processed to extract the silk fibers. Sericulture is an important industry in many countries around the world.
