Fancy Feast is not the worst canned food but its pretty close. You generally want to stay away from cat foods containing any ambiguous "meat by-products" which could be any animal: Beef, Pork, poultry etc. By-products are the leftover parts of the animal (lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, blood, bone, some fatty tissue, and stomach and intestines). Not very good quality.

Natural & artificial flavors is just that - flavouring. This provides no nutrition to the cat, it only makes the food more appealing. The term "Artificial flavors" is incredibly alarming, as this really could be anything. No high-quality food has flavouring added, natural or artificial.

Other things in the list that are worrying: added color(what is used here? It certainly not offer the cat anything), there is also added salt (too much salt over a period of time could seriously harm a cat).

The Ingredients list on a few of their canned foods according to their website:

Classic Chicken Feast:

Chicken, chicken broth, liver, meat by-products, fish, poultry by-products, artificial and natural flavors, calcium phosphate, guar gum, potassium chloride, added color, salt, magnesium sulfate, taurine, zinc sulfate, thiamine mononitrate, Vitamin E supplement, ferrous sulfate, niacin, sodium nitrite (to promote color retention), manganese sulfate, calcium pantothenate, Vitamin A supplement, copper sulfate, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, biotin, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, potassium iodide.

Classic Savory Salmon Feast:

Salmon, liver, meat by-products, fish broth, fish, turkey, artificial and natural flavors, calcium phosphate, guar gum, added color (Red 3 and other color), potassium chloride, salt, magnesium sulfate, taurine, zinc sulfate, thiamine mononitrate, Vitamin E supplement, ferrous sulfate, niacin, sodium nitrite (to promote color retention), manganese sulfate, calcium pantothenate, Vitamin A supplement, copper sulfate, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, biotin, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, potassium iodide.

Friskies is a terrible quality food, filled with ingredients such as wheat gluten, corn starch-modified, natural & artificial flavors, soy flour, soy protein concentrate.

Cats are strict carnivores - they get all their nutrition and energy from Proteins and Fats in fresh meat. Therefore a food truly suitable for a cat is one with meat first on the list, and free of wheat, corn and soy.

Corn and Wheat Gluten are also one of the most common causes of Allergies in foods. See Related Links below for the for more information. Soy Flour and Soy Protein: Is soy that is added to cat food for the protein benefit, but because its a plant it gives barely any nutritional value whatsoever. The possible allergic reaction to soy makes it an ingredient to avoid. Many cat foods have banned any soy product being used in the their foods.

Natural & artificial flavors is just that - flavouring. This provides no nutrition to the cat, it only makes the food more appealing. The term "Artificial flavors" is incredibly alarming, as this really could be anything. No high-quality food has flavouring added, natural or artificial.

Other things in the list that are worrying: "titanium dioxide color" and "salt" (too much salt over a period of time could seriously harm a cat).

Needless to say, Friskies is very poor quality which some ingredients could cause allergies.

There are foods that are completely free of these ingredients, with Named Meat sources at the first of the Ingredients list. Such high-quality foods are much healthier for a cat and much easier to digest. Cats are carnivores and they cannot digest such high quantities of grain and corn. It often gets stored as fat which is the main cause of obesity.
