Is it bad for cats to eat paper?

Cats play with string because they are instinctively drawn to the movement of possible prey (rats, mice, lizards, and their tails).

IMPORTANT : Cats should not be allowed to SWALLOW string, yarn, or tinsel. In some cases, this can lead to intestinal injury.

See your vet. If it's indoor cat, might be just trying to get hair ball out by eating paper, like eating grass. But the difference is, the paper could get stuck in her intestines (just like any other items that are long) and he/she could die from it. so see your vet.

i have 3 cats, they all do this ... weird i know. ( it can get a bit tricky doing filing lol )

All i can think the reason they are is doing it is,

a) if your using the paper eg. filing or drawing , its because your not giving them the attention ( and this is a big no no to a cat lol ) or.

b) its because of the noise that the paper makes. Cats have a very good hearing and crackling paper or any sound like that will attact cats because it sounds very close to the sound prey makes when in danger.

I am pretty sure they will not be upset by the bad news or plunging stock rates that may be in the newspaper. But some cats enjoy sleeping on paper, some love to rip up paper or attack it, and some (like dogs) will relieve themselves on it.

It isn't ideal, but it is unlikely for a cat to come to any harm if it has swallowed paper. Paper is likely to dissolve in the cat's stomach and anything left is passed through the cat's system.
