It is the safest thing you can do for your pet cat, and the kindest thing you can do for your community's bird community. However, unlike dogs, cats have never been FULLY domesticated, so I do understand why you'd ask. I would of course recommend having items inside the home to keep the cat happy and occupied, be it scratching posts, toys, etc., and also growing "cat grass" or catnip can be a fun treat. I also have seen lots of people that get harnesses for their cats and take them for walks. I am sure this is something that requires some time and patience, but the cats I have observed being walked REALLY seemed to enjoy it. If you do consider that, know that the cat will probably really like it and want to go out frequently, though.

Can tabby cats live indoors?

Yes. Each year many people choose to keep their pets all-indoors. it keeps the pet safe from outdoor harm. Like any other cat, a tabby (which is not technically a breed, so much as a marking-- did you know?) could adjust to this lifestyle. However, it requires more exercise and playtime, as the cat does not romp around and exercise outside. It you do not, you will get a chubby kitty and shorter time with your cat. No matter what, you should spay or neuter your cat. But when keeping your cat indoors, it is not quite as important. Your male cat may spray, and females can be a problem, too. But at least you won't come home one day to find your outside she-cat pregnant. Many people have inside pets, and it is good for the wildlife, for your cat, and for you.

Deterrants for getting a cat pregnant?

The best way you can stop your cat getting pregnant is to spay her, and possibly spay or neuter any other house cats you may have. If she's the only cat in your household, you could attempt to keep her indoors, but once on heat will do anything in her power to get outside and mate with a Tom.

How do you stop your cat from chasing bees?

To prevent your cat from chasing bees, you can try keeping your cat indoors when bees are present in your yard. You can also distract your cat with toys or interactive play to redirect their attention away from the bees. Additionally, you can plant bee-friendly plants away from your cat's play area to attract bees away from where your cat likes to roam.

How do you get your cat to stop bringing home dead and alive animals?

The best way to curtail this unfortunate occurrence is to keep your cat indoors at times when rodents, birds, etc. are most susceptible, namely around sunset and at dawn. If you have a catflap/dogflap, or keep a window open or closed for the cat to get in and out, then this should be manageable. This is only a way of minimising opportunities that your cat has to catch prey; unfortunately, as long as your cat is allowed indoors, there is no single way to stop it from happening altogether!Hunting is a cat's natural instinct and your pet sees nothing wrong in bringing its prey indoors and proudly presenting it to you as a sign of love or a gift of food, to show that it is earning its keep by protecting your home and its territory. For this reason, yelling at your cat will not make it stop. It will not understand why you do not want to see its caught prey.If it is dead, dispose of the mouse but NOT IN SIGHT OF THE CAT. Praise the cat first, then dispose of when you get the chance. There is no way to stop your cat from doing this, because your cat is showing you respect and affection. You cannot make a cat what it is not through any amount of training, though you can warp their psyche by being disapproving of them.Usually a hunting cat will lie in wait for its prey, so bells on collars are usually ineffective.:Well, the best way is to STOP letting your cats outdoors. It is almost impossible to stop them from bringing in animals if they have access to outside; it's just what they do. It is actually a gift for you (nice, eh?)Just dispose of the animal out of sight of the cat if you don't want their gifts.:If it wears a collar then try attaching a bell. This won't stop the hunting instinct but it could warn the prey of the cat's approach in time for them to escape.

Is it mean to keep a cat inside?

Nope. My kitty spent her whole life as an indoor cat. She didnt even try to go outside. -- It's not mean or cruel in anyway. Cats live long, happy and healthy lives inside. They don't get into fights, contract contagious diseases from other cats, don't kill song birds and other small creatures. On the contrary, you do both your cat and the environment a great favour by keeping it indoors. Our cat died recently - he spent his entire life indoors and was 19 when he died. He had an extremely good life.
