No, actually, no rooster is really mean. Some roosters just take their jobs very seriously. A roosters job is to protect his flock from predators. Humans look pretty preditorial from a roosters perspective. Many breeds of rooster are very docile such as Cochin, Australorp and Plymouth Rock. They are three of many breeds easily handled, even by children.

∙ 15y agoNo. The color of the cockerel has no effect on its disposition. Breed has a lot to do with how aggressive the male bird will be and also on the flock situation. If a rooster has had to establish dominance against other males all its life then it will be more aggressive than a male who has always been the only one to care for the flock. How the rooster is treated on the farm is also a factor and a bit of aggression is not always a bad thing. The rooster is there to both mate with and protect the hens so it is often a good idea to not stifle its aggressive tendencies.
