Ling or Cobia are long slim fish that have broad heads. The lower jaw projects well past the upper jaw. The dorsal fin is made up of between 7 and 9 free spines. They commonly reach up to 30 lbs. and are found both inshore and near shore of inlets bays and near shipwrecks. Rock salmon are also known as dogfish or flake and are not anywhere near the same as a ling. Rock salmon are elasmobranchs and belong to the same family as shark and rays.
