The same thing just happened to our cat this week. She died within 1 day. I have been trying to find out why,myself.

It is possible, but it wont necessarily be like what is in movies. it would be the spread of disease, death, insanity, and cannibalism. It wont be like the living dead, but just diseased people.
Why do animals sniff your hand before you pet them?
Because they want trust. Like my cat, if he smells my hand and runs or backs away that means I want to chase him or be mean to him in anyway and it is true. Also If he smells my hand and purrs or stays by me that means he knows i wont chase him i will just pet them. Hope this answers your question.

yes because some animals look the exact same like some lambs and ewes they use sent and calls. But if a human or any other biotic factor destroys their sent changing it they wont be able to tell if its their parent or baby.
